Konica Minolta Planetarium
Opening of PLANETARIA YOKOHAMA

On March 24, KONICA MINOLTA PLANETARIA YOKOHAMA, the fifth directly operated Konica Minolta Planetarium, opened in the newly constructed “Yokohama Gate Tower” in Takashima, Nishi-ku, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The facility is located in an urban office building, offering a “Starry Sky” experience that allows visitors to enjoy nature in a modest and luxurious atmosphere.

■Adopting the LED dome projection system

KONICA MINOLTA PLANETARIA YOKOHAMA is equipped with DYNAVISION-LED, released by the Konica Minolta Planetarium in July 2019. Following the “Konica Minolta Planetarium Manten Nagoya”, which opened in October 2021, the facility will allow visitors to enjoy the vivid images of DYNAVISION-LED.

■What is the LED planetarium DYNAVISION-LED?

DYNAVISION-LED is the first LED dome system in Japan. This system has achieved a much higher brightness and a wider color gamut than conventional projection systems and are DYNAVISION-LED’s most impressive features. This new level of high brightness and broad color range are combined with our latest digital planetarium solution, Media Globe Σ SE, to create an amazingly realistic and photorealistic experience of the starry sky and the universe.
With the combination of DYNAVISION-LED and Media Globe Σ SE, it is now possible to reproduce the beauty of the vivid blue sky and ocean, the red brightening of a gorgeous sunset, and the twinkling shiny stars. The depth of the image serves to increase the sense of immersion and makes it more realistic than ever before.

■Cafe & Gift Store built in
Like its sister facility, kONICA MINOLTA PLANETARIA TOKYO in Yurakucho, kONICA MINOLTA PLANETARIA YOKOHAMA features Cafe Planetaria and Gallery Planetaria, a gift store. Drinks and snacks from the cafe can be brought inside the dome and enjoyed while viewing the starry sky. In keeping with the theme of stars, constellations, and galaxies, the gift store sells assorted goods and accessories. These are recommended not only as souvenirs, but also as personal gifts.

■"Photography Permitted" Opening Program at the Planetarium
"Space Voyage #My Universe Through the Finder" will be shown as the opening screening. This is the first "photography permitted" program in an LED dome, and the narration by the Japanese actor Hayato Isomura, who plays the role of the captain, allows visitors to experience space travel through the sights and sounds of space.
The high luminance and wide color gamut of the DYNAVISION-LEDs provide an unprecedented visual experience.

With over 50 years of experience in the planetarium field, Konica Minolta Planetarium has brought to the world a variety of advanced technologies such as the high-performance DYNAVISION-LED and Media Globe Σ SE. We will continue to explore the beauty of the stars and provide the enjoyment and opportunity of stargazing to everyone.
