Konica Minolta Announces Track & Field Club’s Head Coach

Tokyo (March 16, 2022) – Konica Minolta, Inc. (Konica Minolta) announced that Katsumi Sakai, who is an acting head coach of Konica Minolta Track & Field Club, will become the head coach of the club, effective April 1, 2022.
Sakai joined the Track & Field Club as a long-distance runner in 1978. After retiring as a runner, he became the head coach of the club from 1992 to 2013, during which time Konica Minolta’s team won Japan’s New Year Ekiden race seven times under his leadership.
Following this success, he took up the post of Deputy Director of Konica Minolta Track & Field Club and then Vice-Chairperson of the High Performance Committee of the Japan Association of Athletics Federations.
Currently Sakai also serves as Executive Director of the Japan Industrial Track & Field Association.
